Demdike Stare - Elemental 2XCD set
Just released on Modern Love. Big want from over here! Gotta dig that Panasonic-style static-laden darkness…
The marketing bumf:
It’s been almost a year since Demdike Stare finished their “Tryptych” of releases, and in the intervening months Miles Whittaker and Sean Canty have been busy touring and gradually piecing together sounds for this new series: Elemental. After four limited edition vinyl installments, Elemental is now released as a 2CD album, including different versions of tracks that have appeared on the vinyl editions, plus extensive additional material - making for a two-hour trip through dark, post-industrial terrain.
Oh yes, definitely two thumbs up here … While I’m always a sucker for this kinda stuff, this one happens to be a really well constructed piece of soaring ambience. Made all the more unsettling by the air traffic control chatter that sounds like it’s leading up to a disaster of some kind…
Also cool is how the cassette version of this release is described:
All our cassettes come in sturdy plastic cases with full-color artwork, liner notes, etc… painstakingly pasted, re-sized, cropped and rotated 90 degrees using Windows Paint.

DISCLAIMER: In keeping with the lo-fi aesthetic, we do all our dubbing at home, in the living room, where each cassette is given individual attention. So, what does this mean for you, the listener? Well, it means there’s always the possibility that your tape may contain a small amount of ambient background noise. This adds a unique flavor that we believe only serves to enhance your listening experience. From our boombox to yours ♥

searching far and wide.
Your feelings and emotions eventually become unsettling. Suddenly all of the anxiety builds up to a breaking point…
You take a long deep breath and your heads falls back…
Sunup Recordings has delivered yet another brilliant piece of nighttime ambience. This chillingly gorgeous, twelve-minute drone comes from the Burlington, NC based soundscapist Lost Trail (aka Zach Corsa). It’s one of the six lengthy tracks on his newest cassette release, A Stained August For The Jetcrash.

Lovely whooshiness.

I’m in wait and see mode - can Best Coast avoid the dreaded sophomore slump?
Best Coast today confirm a five date UK headline tour for June 2012 culminating in a performance at the legendary Isle of Wight Festival. The shows will be the band’s first playing in the UK as an expanded four piece - with the core duo of Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno being joined by Rafe…
Link points to a handy list of some key 70s German krautrock albums.
My quibble (as a fussy record collecting nerd) is that kosmische is not equivalent to krautrock.
To me, kosmische is a specific sub-form of krautrock. It’s the spacier, beatless side of what was going on in Germany in the late 60s, early 70s. Think of really early Tangerine Dream as opposed to Neu! or Kraftwerk.
Junk Culture - “Honeysuckle”
Breezy sampladelic vibes in an Avalanches-meets-Animal Collective mode. Nice stuff to get lost in for a hazy-lazy afternoon…
